Week 7- Juxtaposition

Juxtaposition means placing two different things together in a way that we naturally start comparing the two. Then, we'll start seeing the differences and similarities between them. This promotes creative thinking as we start to find out how to link the two different things. This is purely individual as different people with different backgrounds have different knowledge and experience.

The series that I'll be relating juxtaposition to is Kingdom Hearts. The theme 'friendship and betrayal' and 'light and darkness' are clearly shown in many parts of the series.

Friendship / betrayal and
Light/ Darkness

In order to save Kairi, Riku betrays Sora and join the darkness. Riku is jealous and mad at Sora for forgetting about them and hang out with new gang of friends. Riku is also jealous that Sora is the owner of Keyblade. However, we then find out that Riku is still loyal to the friendship but on the pretence of hating Sora so that the darkness will aid him in saving Kairi. Sora sacrificed himself to give Kairi her heart, which is inside his. The ending where the 3 of them should be going home together, is abruptly ruined as the darkness start closing in to the door to the Kingdom Hearts. Riku sacrificed himself as he closes the door upon himself to stop the darkness from getting to the Kingdom Hearts. As the door almost shut, Riku tells Sora with a sad smile, "Take care of her...", asking Sora to take his place as he is sealed inside. Instead of going home with Kairi, Sora decided to separate with her and they drifted away in two different worlds. Sora resume his journey to save Riku, while Kairi is left alone where they first begun their journey.

Loyalty/Betrayal and
Heart's Decision / Duty

When Sora's keyblade chooses Riku as the true master, Donald and Goofy don't know whether to stay with Sora or go to Riku's side. They had to follow King Mickey's orders to stay with the Keyblade master. Should they be loyal to the King's orders and betray Sora? Yet, they follow their hearts to stay loyal with Sora and betray King Mickey's orders by
abandoning their duty.

Hopelessness / Courage
After Sora's keyblade chose Riku as the true master, Sora lost his hope of saving Kairi and on the brink of losing his new companions [Donald and Goofy]. However, Sora is still determined to fight Riku even by using a wooden sword. This courage in Sora changes the Keyblade's perception. As Sora's heart is stronger, the keyblade returns to Sora's hands.
